Martek Receives Favorable GRAS Review

FDA has completed a favorable review of Columbia, MD-based Martek’s generally recognized as safe (GRAS) notification for use of DHA in food applications. This additional Martek DHA is derived from a different alga than the DHA that is authorized for addition to infant formulas. This FDA review was not re­quired but was undertaken by Martek because it believes the extra review provides further indication of future food safety. Martek is currently working with several food manufacturers to include its DHA in food products, including yogurt, cheese, nutrition bars and several other applications.
